At Yale Cardiac Surgery, we provide personalized, compassionate care for adult and pediatric patients. We understand that the thought of cardiac surgery can seem frightening, which is why we take the time to answer all your questions in detail.
Our cardiac team
includes some of the most experienced and award-winning cardiac surgeons
in the world, as well as a dedicated team of experienced cardiologists, cardiac nurses, physicians assistants, and nurse practitioners. We also collaborate with leading cardiologists at Yale in the treatment of heart failure, coronary artery disease, valve disease, and arrhythmias.
Yale Cardiac Surgery has the largest volume of aortic cases in Connecticut and the top 3 percent in aortic surgical volume nationally. We also perform the largest number of mitral valve operations in the state. Our surgeons
have an extensive record of outstanding clinical outcomes in cardiac transplantation and implantation of mechanical circulatory support devices, and Yale survival statistics for coronary artery bypass, mitral valve replacement, and aortic valve replacement consistently exceed national and regional averages.
As faculty of the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery, our surgeons
have made groundbreaking advances in clinical and basic research. We are presently making new discoveries on how aortic aneurysms form to determine which patients are at risk and to develop better prevention and treatment strategies. We have also developed a working prototype for transmitting wireless energy to power artificial heart devices and are working on developing detailed computer models to better plan complicated valve repair operations. Our pediatric surgeons recently implanted the first stem-cell based vascular graft in the United States. Members of our group have been internationally recognized as pioneers in the use of innovative new technologies, including the da Vinci Robot and minimally invasive aortic and mitral valve repair techniques that make cardiac procedures safer and more effective. Finally, we are the only cardiac surgery center in New England that offers both of the only FDA-approved catheter-delivered aortic valve replacement devices that do not require surgery to implant.
