INFORMATION...

The Yale-New Haven Emergency Department treats over 100,000 adult and pediatric patients each year, offering specialized treatment areas including critical care, acute care, psychiatric, and a 24-hour chest pain center. We are one of only two ACS-verified Level I trauma centers in Southern Connecticut.

The Yale-New Haven Emergency Medicine Residency Training Program offers exceptional training preparing academically-oriented leaders in emergency medicine. Highlights of our program include extensive ultrasound training, ample research opportunities, an active pre-hospital medicine division, six months of critical care time, and six months of elective/research time.

Research is an integral part of Yale Emergency Medicine. Our faculty and residents are very active in research and in dissemination of research findings at national meetings and in peer-reviewed journals. Primary areas of research focus include: substance abuse policy and interventions; the use of bedside ultrasound in emergency medicine practice; the impact of simulation education on clinical performance; and risk factors and biologic markers for heart disease.

WELCOME...

Welcome to the official website of Yale Emergency Medicine. Here you will find information about our section, our residency and fellowship training programs, current research, and information on our faculty and residents.

The Yale-New Haven Medical Center Emergency Medicine residency training program, which began in 1996, recently graduated its eighth class. Our four-year program offers excellent training in emergency medicine and includes six months of critical care experience and six months of elective time. Rotations are performed at Yale-New Haven Medical Center and Bridgeport Hospital.

A major strength of the program is the opportunity residents have to complete rotations in underdeveloped countries with funding provided by the Yale/Johnson & Johnson Physician Scholars in International Health Program. Many of our program graduates pursue careers in academic emergency medicine or continue their training with a fellowship in areas like international health, ultrasound, toxicology, or pre-hospital medicine.

Yale currently offers fellowship training in emergency medical services, pediatric emergency medicine, and emergency ultrasound, all nationally recognized for their excellence in training. The Yale Emergency Medicine faculty members are national leaders. Many of our faculty are actively engaged in national professional organizations and hold leadership positions in them. Currently, Dr. David Cone, EMS Division Director, is the President of the National Association of EMS Physicians and Dr. Linda C. Degutis, Research Division Director, is incoming president of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Chris Moore, Ultrasound Division Director, was recently recognized as the National American College of Emergency Physicians Teacher of the Year.
