At The Breast Center -- Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven, we provide advanced surgical care for women with breast cancer, as well as women with benign diseases of the breast. Often, cancer patients who have received a diagnosis or have begun treatment at another facility choose to get a second opinion or to continue treatment with The Breast Center. We are happy to help all breast cancer patients, regardless of where they are in the treatment process.
Compassionate concern and personalized care is at the heart of our integrated patient- and family-oriented approach. If you have breast cancer, we understand that family members and friends are an important part of your healing process. That is why we offer in-depth information and support for you and your loved ones. Whether you are beginning or continuing your breast cancer journey with us, we consider your thoughts and concerns to create a personalized treatment plan that includes the most up-to-date technology, minimally invasive techniques, personalized medicine, and a variety of complementary and supportive services that focus on your emotional and spiritual needs.
As faculty of the Yale School of Medicine Department of Surgery, our surgeons, who include Dr. Anees Chagpar, Director, Dr. Donald Lannin; Dr. Brigid Killelea; and Dr. Nina Horowitz, are leaders in their fields of practice and research. They are pioneers in developing surgical and curative technologies for breast cancer care and breast health issues. Because our surgeons continually integrate the most up-to-date techniques in their practice, their patients benefit from superlative surgical treatments and clinical trials, when available. One of these advanced technologies is personalized medicine, which, in part, means that we can find out a tumor’s unique biology, on a molecular level, so that we can create a very targeted treatment plan.
A Team Approach
Our patients benefit greatly from the combined experience of our nationally renowned surgeons and the multidisciplinary clinical professionals of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. Our team includes radiologists, imagers and pathologists, plastic and reconstructive surgeons, nurses, social workers, geneticists, and research coordinators. Together, our team is highly experienced at dealing with even the most complicated breast cancer cases. By meeting each week to review the imaging films and pathology slides of new and complex cases, we can create an optimal strategy for each of our patients.
