4.  How much blood is lost in a standard reduction?  Can this be decreased by using epinephrine? (Scandinavian J. Plastic Surg 1992; 26:211)

Answer:
200 ml of 1:1,000,000 epinephrine was injected between the pectoralis fascia and the gland and also intradermally in one breast; blood loss was found to be reduced to less than 50% compared to the non-infiltrated side.  No increase in postoperative bleeding (rebound) or reduced flap viability.  Approximately 380 cc lost from the breast without infiltration (?use of Bovie or knife).
