27.  Should we use porcine autograft?

Answer:
Porcine autografts can be used to cover superficial partial-thickness, clean, uncontaminated wounds.  If used on deep partial-thickness, full-thickness, or if bacterial colonization has occurred then pigskin generally fails.  The effect of porcine skin is to reverse the zone of stasis by preventing wound dehydration.
