11.  Does collagen injection for glabellar lines, nasolabial folds, or depressed scars work?

Answer:
According to the article, “Soft tissue augmentation. A review,” by Melvin Elson in 1995, the products Zyderm I (3.5% collagen) can be used for fine lines around the eyes and the lips, and as an overlay with Zyplast in nasolabial folds and oral commisures.  Zyderm II (6.5% collagen) is indicated in the treatment of scars and glabellar frown lines.  According to this article, “...with the use of these materials in experienced hands, one can expect to achieve a satisfactory degree of correction for an acceptable period of time.” And nasolabial folds, oral commisures, and glabellar frown lines respond well to treatment. There is no mention of the use of these agents for scars.
