In 1998, a study was done which compared storing human skin at 4 degrees in either saline, McCoys 5A medium, oxygenated McCoys and CO2 McCoys. Skin stored in saline lasted one week, in CO2 supplemented it lasted less than one week, but in regular McCoys or oxygenated McCoys, it was viable for 4 weeks. So oxygenation does not improve the viable storage time and CO2 appears to be detrimental. In this study, a STSG was stored for 5 weeks in regular McCoys and still resulted in good take.
