9.  Should you do your microvascular anastomosis with the laser?  (PRS 1989; 83:511)

Answer:
Laser assisted end-to-side anastomosis in rats versus conventional method, normal anastomotic tension : Patency rate with laser was equivalent but there was a significantly higher aneursym rate.

Laser assisted repair of arterial bypass around the carotid with turbulent flow but low anastomotic tension: Patency rate better with laser and aneurysm rate negligible.

Laser bonding creates an anastomosis with initially less strength than the all-suture type hence more aneursyms in normal anastomotic tension situations.

But with laser there is no suture to promote thrombosis, hence better patency in low anastomotic tension situations.
