Endoscopic abdominoplasty involves making a small suprapubic transverse
incision and raising cutaneous flaps up to the level of the umbilicus.
The rectus is then plicated endoscopically. Suction lipectomy is used if
indicated. Only a small percentage of patients are candidates for endoscopic
abdominoplasty. The procedure is useful for patients with a contour deformity
limited to the lower abdomen with minimal skin excess. Patients have musculofascial
laxity that can be elicited by having the patient bend over at the waist
to relax the muscles and should worsen the musculofascial laxity. This
is the so called “divers” test by Gremminger.
