More than 2000 anastomoses in more than 900 tissue transplants were reviewed. The end-to-end and end-to-side anastomoses were found to be equally effective when properly applied. Failure rates (defined as any problem attributable to the anastomosis at the time of exploration, regardless of the ultimate outcome of the flap) were equal (7.87% for end-to-end and 8.50% for end-to-side).
