15.  The president of ASPRS invites you to dinner.  His cat bites your right hand, and his dog bites your left hand.  What should you do?

Answer:
Domestic animal bites or scratches can produce acute cellulitis and lymphangitis. These conditions frequently develop very rapidly and with particular virulence. Cultures usually identify Pasturella multicocida as the pathogen. The antibiotic of choice in treating this organism is penicillin, but the cephalosporins are also effective. No bite should be sutured primarily. If small or punctate, the wound may require extension. Thorough debridement and irrigation should be undertaken, and the use of a Waterpik has been recommended. The wound should be left open.
