Yale Surgery's Section of Emergency Medicine (SEM) is a leader in patient care, education and research. SEM faculty cover and maintain the staffing and operation of the Adult Department of Emergency Services at Yale-New Have Hospital, which is a Level 1 Trauma Center. SEM is at the forefront of disaster and emergency preparedness management, providing hands-on leadership and direction of university, hospital, city, regional, and federal planning in this critical area, and leadership to the regional EMS system (New Haven Sponsor Hospital Program). SEM's Research Division is extremely active, having most recently been awarded an NIAAA Grant for Alcohol Screening and Prevention while maintaining funded research programs involving development of pathogen detecting environmental monitoring technology for military and civilian emergency response applications; and, studying fire fighter physiology, health and operational safety. The SEM Residency Program received full accreditation during 2002, appointing its seventh class and graduating its third class.

To learn more about the SEM Residency program, please read our brochure. Visit the SEM web site or contact SEM Administrator, Jamie Petrone at jamie.petrone@yale.edu or (203) 785-4404.
